My boys are blessing me with a long nap today so I thought I would post a brief wordy update on our household. By the time this posts, we will be headed down to North Carolina to spend a week with Scott's parents at the lake house!!!
The boys continue to amaze me every day. Charlie is wise beyond his years and I just love watching his mind work. While he still has the toddler (preschool!) fits, he's generally a mild-mannered child. He is a sponge, soaking up everything he hears and sees. Loves books, could sit for hours and hours. He knows all of the basic phonics (even says "mom, c and k make the same sound sometimes!") and can sound out most basic words...and frequently carries around his flash cards. He also likes to spell words while we're driving. The other day he was obsessed with trying to sound out "eleven" (let's try "ten", it's easier!). He understands the difference between English and French, and doesn't mind when I read to him in French (even thought I know he's not understanding everything). In groups, he prefers to play by himself, or sit with teachers/adults. His imagination is wild--loves pretending he's a duck (crazy about the ducklings on the canal this time of year!), construction worker, or even a truck itself. For the most part, he's a rule follower, but he likes to remind Sam that he's the big brother. Most of the time, he loves having Sam follow him around, and bosses Sam when they play together. He rides his balance bike like a champ (to school, the grocery, library, parks, etc) and loves playing baseball with the whiffle ball set that my brother got him for his birthday (and makes contact frequently!).
Sam...just wants to be like Charlie!!! He has always been my loud baby...loud when he's happy, loud when he's upset! He is talking now, has probably 20-25 words in his vocab now (in addition to his favorite signs for eat, more, milk, and "ba" which is his blankie he sleeps with). He is so proud of himself when he's understood, and nods his head with a big smile. He follows Charlie around, trying to repeat everything he says and does. He doesn't mind being dirty--loves the sandbox (and my garden...ug) but comes to show me when there's dirt on his hands. Any time he hears a loud noise he yells "cuck!" (truck). Says mama, daddy, peas, cheese, nana, QUACK (also loves ducks), book, tank-oooo, weee (for swing), bravo!...also loves to read and would sit and look at books all day long. He understands almost everything we say--the other day, he wanted to go outside with Scott but his shoes were in his room. I asked him to go get his shoes from his room...2 minutes later, he comes toddling out with both of his shoes in hand (now, if he could only lead me to his shoe that has been missing for a few weeks!). Sam throws fits when he doesn't get what he wants...all out whining, running away and stomping his feet...welcome toddlerhood.
Both boys are amazing eaters...I'm already fearing the teenage years!
We'll be gone for the week, but promises of pictures when we get back (500 parade and vaca!)
